Nearly half of coronavirus spread may be traced to people without any symptoms
Increasing evidence has shown that asymptomatic individuals can spread the virus efficiently and the emergence of these “silent spreaders” of SARS-CoV-2 has caused difficulties in the control of the pandemic. This evidence has shown that nearly 50% of people are asymptomatic and are unaware that they are spreading the virus.
As businesses begin to re-open, proactive swab testing is essential for the safety of your teams. It’s likely you’ll have seen the Premiership Football teams have implementing weekly proactive swab testing for their staff members to ensure their own safety and the safety of others around them from passing on coronavirus, without knowledge they’re doing so.
A nasopharyngeal swab test is when a swab of the back of the nose and throat is taken to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2. We recommend that the swab should be taken by a well-trained medical professional since it can be quite tricky to “hit the spot”, if it’s not just a bit uncomfortable then it’s unlikely that the swab will produce an accurate result. The swab is then sent off to our partner Virology laboratory for analysis and the results returned within around 72 hours. Organisations that are returning to work may considering swab testing their teams every 7 – 10 days to ensure safety from infection. Swab testing can happen both in-clinic or on-site.
Employers have a duty of care to ensure the safety of their staff, employee expectations have been heightened in the midst of coronavirus. Proactive swabbing is a way to instil confidence in your team members.
Not only is swab testing for individuals important, but swab testing the surfaces of your office or facility if also crucial to understand the safety of the space your working in. Swab testing can be carried out on all surfaces, especially those that are more high risk (door handles, office equipment).
We’re working closely with organisations to understand the Covid-19 status of their staff and also the cleanliness of their workspaces, carrying out weekly swab tests both on-site and in-clinic. For more information on our proactive testing, get in touch here.
